October 2017 Accounts

So I got into debt in October. I have paid the debt in full, but I’ll explain how it happened.

MONEY IN

(A quick recap. I do my monthly expenses posts based on the full calendar month, but my accounts posts run from payday to the day before the next payday).

WAGES £1215.03

PRESENT £50 (My dad sent me the money probably because he felt sorry for me)

SAVINGS £1.15 (Yes, that was the total of my savings)

SEALED POT £4.58 (This was one of those money tins that is hard to open)

TOPCASHBACK £20 (For switching energy suppliers)

LEFT OVER MONEY IN ACCOUNT £6.97

TOTAL = £1297.73

Now time for the less fun bit.

MONEY OUT

Excess Food Budget Spends £51.67 (Seriously went over last month)

Expenses Post September Payday £47.09

Expenses Pre October Payday £313.58

Bills £1142.50

TOTAL = £1554.84

MONEY IN (£1297.73) – MONEY OUT (£1554.84) = -£257.11

So I got into £257.11 of debt last month. This was the excess spends on my credit card I referred to in my previous post (see here if interested). I have paid that off in full now, so I am back to square one.

No more additional debt, just the horribly big underlying amount.

JULY 2017 ACCOUNTS

I do my accounts from payday to payday so it’s time to assess how I did financially last month.

ACCOUNTS

MONEY IN

Leftover money in account £15

Wages £1218.42

Ebay Sales £55.95

We Buy Books £56.12

Cheque from my Aunt £25

Selling Bike £20

Ziffit £26.46

The boy buying some of my books £5

Holiday spending money £20

Ebay Sales £46.59

Gum tree £15

TOTAL = £1503.54

MONEY OUT

Bills £1174.18

Food Budget overspends £1.45

Expenses post June Payday £25.90

Expenses pre July Payday £185.75

TOTAL = £1387.28

MONEY IN (£1503.54) – MONEY OUT (£1387.28) = £116.26 IN CREDIT

Which is about what I made in payments towards the debt I owe the boy.

Another month where I didn’t get into debt.

Life is ok.

June 2017 Accounts

Hi all.

Payday was yesterday, time to look at the last month’s accounts.

JUNE 2017 ACCOUNTS

MONEY IN

Wages = £1661.03

Savings = £20.03

Refund = £0.67

Selling books = £31.64

Loan from The Boy = £35

Cheque from my Mum on account of me having a breakdown = £100

TOTAL = £1848.37

MONEY OUT

Bills = £1541.03

Expenses = £183.58

Overspends on food = £88.55

Counselling Session = £25

TOTAL = £1808.16

MONEY IN (£1848.37) – MONEY OUT (£1808.16) = £40.21

And for once I think it adds up because that £40.21 is about what I made in overpayments to one of my credit cards last month. So for once I think I got my accounts right. Huzzah.

MAY 2017 FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS

Hi everybody,

So you have seen how I spent my money, but how did my money spending add up in May?

Well I prepped this a few days ago as I do my accounts from Pay Day to Pay Day.

Let’s see if I was in profit or not.

MONEY IN

Wages from work £366.56

Self Employed Wages £72.50

Leftover Money in account before payday £61.70

Selling Books on We Buy Books £36.46

Savings £20

Sealed Pot Booty £90

TOTAL MONEY IN = £647.22

MONEY OUT

Gift to Bestie at her wedding £100

Bills £685.71

Expenses before end of May Pay Day £49.91

Expenses after April Pay Day £40.72

TOTAL MONEY OUT = £876.34

Money in – Money out = £229.12

The negative amount was covered by the fact that I borrowed £400 from the boy, but I decided to not include this as I wanted to be clear that I got into debt last month.

So there we have it, the first month I got into debt.

Booooooooooooooooooooooo!

Financial Review of Week 12

Hi all,

It’s that time again.

I may incur more expenses today as the boy wants to go out to watch the football and we are also out this evening to watch a comedian, but I feel like doing this now.

FOOD SHOPPING

Bread Rolls and Orange Juice = £1.39

Milk = £1.50

Bread = £0.90

Big Monthly Food Shop = £109.11

Listerine and other things = £5.77

Frozen Peas = £1

Potatoes, Naan Bread, Poppadoms, Spray Oil, Microwave rice x 8, Hay Fever Tablets x 2 = £9.02

Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Bananas, Bread, Bread rolls = £4.01

Ginger Wine = £3.75

TOTAL = A LOT (£136.45)

DISPOSABLE INCOME

WORK EXPENSE

Milk for work = £1.10

POSTAGE AND PACKAGING

Envelope = £0.80

Postage of a parcel = £5.50

TOTAL £7.40

TOTAL SPENDS THIS WEEK = £143.85

The first few days after I get paid are always a little expensive so this is normal but still I don’t like seeing I spent nearly £150 this week with the potential for more spending.

I have a very small amount of disposable income between now and the next payday so I will have to be careful.

A Breakdown of my March 2017 Accounts

Hi all,

So I do what I call my ‘Accounts’ spreadsheet for each month from payday to payday. This is where I keep track of the money coming in versus the money that goes out.

Here is what March looked like

MONEY IN

Wages = £1206.26

Birthday Money = £100

Leftover Food budget money = £1.13

Excess money from bills = £15.80

Savings = £20

Interest on savings = £0.03 (can I retire now?)

TOTAL = £1343.22

MONEY OUT

Bills = £1166.26

Expenses in February after February Payday = £1.10

Expenses in March before Payday = £154.70

TOTAL = £1322.06

DIFFERENCE = £21.16

So I was in profit in the last payday month by just over £20 which is great, and I know where that money is unlike the last two months where I was apparently in profit by lots of wonga with no clue as to where that money was.

I have been in profit every month of this year so far so that is a good sign.

Trouble is I was doing similar last year before I entered the summer of the great unemployment, and I am heading that way now.

I will survive, one way or another, just don’t use credit to pay for things.

January 2017 Financial Review

Hi everybody,

It is the end of the first month of the year. I am 1/12 of the way through a No Spend Year and it is time to assess how I spent my money this month.

HOME £5/£2.50

WORK EXPENSE £5.90/£7.50

SOCIAL £161.07/£25 (ooops)

HEALTH £13.50/£5

GIFT £27.87/£25

TRAVEL (DAY TO DAY) £2/£10

So good points:

I was under budget on a couple of categories.

There were no ‘forbidden’ purchases.

Nothing was put on a credit card (not that it was going to be but still I celebrate small victories).

Some budgets will be inflated this month but will balance out in the long run.

Due to my payday being before the end of the month some of these expenses were from my December-January pay and some were covered by my most recent payday.

January will be a weird month anyway as my account balanced was increased from having Christmas present money.

Bad points

I am over budget on most categories including a very, very high balance on my Social budget.

And that is all that needs to be said.

Hmmm.

Let’s look at my January accounts:

MONEY IN

£1485.62

MONEY OUT

£1378.45

DIFFERENCE

£107.17

Which in theory is great, except I don’t know where this £107.17 profit has disappeared to.

Better than my ‘January 2017 Accounts’ spreadsheet telling me I am in debt this month, but it is confusing.

I need to reign it in this February. I don’t have Christmas money going spare, I only have what is in my account and purse. I will have to be careful.
