Lentil ‘Not a Dahl’, Cauliflower ‘Not a Steak’ and Cauliflower ‘Not Rice’

At work there is a fruit and veg stall and given that it is a University I work for the prices are student purse friendly.

So I went a little crazy and carried all the way home 2 (extremely) heavy bags with 1 Cauliflower, 1 parsnip, 7 carrots, 1 swede, 1 onion and 9 Potatoes. All the spanking price of £3.

Then I got home and had to find food stuffs to make so that none of it goes to waste (I detest waste).

I have never made cauliflower rice or steaks before but have heard of them, and I made a dahl once but it was a very long time ago.

Other than a cursory glance at my battered copy of A Girl Called Jack to see roughly what sort of ingredients go into a dahl, I went ‘freestyle’ and made all these foods myself.

Which probably explains why the ‘steak’ looks a little odd. Delicious, but odd.

The Dahl was 1 tin of green lentils (I am still making my way through my tin collection), 1 onion, 1 carrot, a bit of lazy garlic and a carton of Tesco value Passata. Plus rather liberal amounts of Garam Masala and Cumin.

The Cauliflower steak was inspired by my Dahl and was marinaded in rapeseed oil and more, more, more Garam Masala and Cumin.

The Cauliflower rice was roasted in a roasted pan with oil in the oven.

I have a confession to make.

My boyfriend wanted pancakes as he didn’t have any yesterday.

I ate a pancake.

It was very nice.
